Visceral and Neural Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that aids the body's ability to release restrictions and unhealthy compensations related to fixation in internal organs.

Neural Manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that addresses local nerve restrictions which have an impact on other parts of the body, causing pain and dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation (VM)

Visceral Manipulation is primarily focused on the movement of internal organs as it relates to other structures in the body. Our internal organs are in continuous motion, they breathe: organs have intrinsic movement, and also move in relationship to surrounding structures like muscles, bones, ligaments, nerves, arteries, and fascia. In a healthy system, all these structures move together, fluidly. But organs can lose their ability to move due to trauma, injury, illness, surgery, emotional stress, lifestyle, diet, posture, or environmental factors. When an organ is restricted and fixed to another structure, the body is forced to compensate. This can create pain, abnormal tension, chronic irritation, and inflammation leading to functional and structural problems throughout the body.

The visceral manual therapist works with restrictions in the internal organs which may cause patterns of compensation in the entire body. The treatment consists of gentle compression, mobilization and elongation of the soft tissues.

Neural Manipulation (NM)

The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, and a network of peripheral nerves. It is a communication system throughout the body and between all its tissues. In particular, peripheral nerves connect all tissues and organs with the brain and spinal cord. When the nervous system becomes dysfunctional due to trauma, injury, illness, surgery, a sedentary lifestyle, poor posture, diet, or environmental factors, it causes the body to protect and create compensation patterns in the area, diminishing its ability to respond. This creates a wider spread restriction and chronic irritation that overtime can lead to functional and structural problems: musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urinary, respiratory, digestive, and more.

The neural manual therapist identifies the local nerve fixation and its impact on the body. The treatment consists of gentle and specific techniques that free the nerve, and thus improve communication throughout the body, allow it to better respond to stress, and alleviate pain related to the dysfunction.
